The hostel entrance as

The Lighthouse hostel is just west of Highway 1 at 16th Street in Montara. (See

Look for the small white-on-brown "Hostel" signs (as in the picture
to the right); the hostel entrance itself is not well marked, especially
for south-bound drivers, though there is a (not very bright) light there.
Northbound drivers: for your safety, please take special note of the suggestions
below.
Parking
To help our hosts at the hostel and their overnight guests, please park in either of these two areas:
- In any of the south-facing parking spots immediately to your left as you come through the hostel gate, or ...
- Along the frontage road to the left, just before you enter the hostel gate.
This is especially helpful when the hostel is busy and families with children need to load and unload their cars.
Of course, some of us have a legitimate need to drive all the way down to the lighthouse and park in one of the few areas there, and that should continue as before.

- From Half Moon Bay: The hostel is just under
7.0 miles north of the junction of Hwy 92 and Hwy 1, and about 0.5 miles north
of the Moss Beach Post Office.
When coming from the south,
you would need to make a left turn into the hostel and this
can be dangerous; there is no left-turn lane.
Please consider passing the hostel entrance and turning around.
There are only a few places in Montara
where you can turn left/south onto Highway One; the two closest
are:
14th Street -- about a hundred yards north of the hostel. There's plenty
of room to turn around here, but you'll still have to deal with traffic coming both ways.
8th Street by the "Neighborhood
Mart." There's
a turn and merge lane here making your left turn onto Highway 1
easier and safer. (Consider taking the right-hand turn lane
to leave the highway
north-bound at 10th
St, take an immediate left and go one block to 8th.)
- From Pacifica: The hostel is approximately
0.75 miles south of the "Outrigger" restaurant, the first building
south of Devil's Slide.
- From San Francisco: Take 280 toward Daly City, then the Hwy 1 exit to Pacifica.
- From the Peninsula: From either 101 or 280, take Hwy 92 west to Half Moon Bay.
